On Translation Of Informative Text From The Contextual Perspective

St. John’s University Strategic Plan2008-2013is a general introduction provided by St. John’s University in fields with rich and varied information and content. On the basis of the English-Chinese translation of this strategic plan, this paper attempts to discuss some issues on the translation of informative text through the case analysis, especially on the translation of the vocabularies with characteristics from the contextual perspective.In view of St. John’s University Strategic Plan2008-2013as a typically informative text, the author probes into the features, functions and purposes of this type of text and some strategies of translation accordingly. The author maintains that expressing the original accurately in the target language to realize the function of conveying information is at the core of translation, complying with the principles of function plus loyalty.
