As a practice report on consecutive interpreting, this dissertation discusses specially the receiving and understanding of input information in the process of consecutive interpreting, based on the task of the speeches by American and Chinese leaders in The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen,2009. Focusing on how to receive input information effectively as well as understand it precisely and promptly, and find the possible coping strategies and solutions. In the description of the task, the report introduces the background of Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, including the focus of the conference, the attitudes of governments and an effective agreement arrived in the conference and so on. The source of the task is excerpted from the important speeches delivered by President Obama and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao in the conference. In the chapter of task process, the report combines closely the primary factor of listening and understanding in the process of consecutive interpreting and the basic theory of interpreting comprehension formula put forward by Daniel Gile, and chooses some typical cases, analyzing them in the text level from two aspects, namely "the receiving and analyzing of information" and "the understanding of information".Through the practice and analysis, the report draws the following conclusion:In the process of consecutive interpreting, the interpreter needs to analyze the received information continuously and fully coordinate the sense, thinking and other resources to make a positive response to the input information and understand it accurately through organizing and visualizing the information. Language is the main carrier of information and interpreting is a language communicative activity, thus the transferring of information mainly rely on the understanding of the vocabulary and sentence structure in the source language. In the meanwhile, interpreting involves a wide range of knowledge, if the interpreter could grasp the professional knowledge in a certain field, he will be able to analyze and understand the speaker from a professional point of view. So the extra-linguistic knowledge is of great value to the successful interpreting. In the actual operation process, appropriate analysis methods also contribute to the understanding of input information.
