Shiga Naoya was a representative writer of the Shirakaba School. His works weredrawn from life. His writing style was deft, succinct, plain and smooth and hisportrayal was precise, forming the unique Shiga literature. Shiga Naoya’s novelwriting had realistic spirit describing ordinary people and matters, but these triviaseemingly difficult to impress people were endowed with new life and meaning byhim, forming his unique style. He advocated that literature should reflect humandestiny and the progress of society and his spirit of facing up to society and lifeembodied his positive aspect. Having a very high status in the history of modernJapanese literature, he has been known as "God of fiction".Shiga Naoya’s writing was mainly short stories. His works mainly expressed theego, respected human nature, paid attention to humanitarian spirit and personalconcern, was close to nature and explored life philosophy from nature. In Kinosakiwas one of excellent representative works of mood novel. Through observation ofthree small animals’death, Shiga Naoya’s unique view of life and death wasdemonstrated to us in In Kinosaki: the contradiction of life and death are not twoextremes in opposition to each other but two different components belonging to asubject of life. That is to say, the boundary between life and death is not clear anddeath is not terrible, but when death comes, whether human or animal must passthrough painful struggle and battle of life. Death is inevitable, but death also hassome kind of chanciness and uncertainty, and the chanciness and uncertainty of lifeare the embodiment of his view of life and death in In Kinosaki.
