Knowledge is a critical organizational resource that provides a sustainablecompetitive advantage in a competitive and dynamic economy. To gain a competitiveadvantage it is necessary for the organizations to consider how to transfer expertise andknowledge from experts who have it to novices who need to know and more effectivelyexploit knowledge-based resources that already exist within the organization. Purpose-The study sets out to examine the direct influence of organization-based self-esteem onknowledge sharing and the multiple mediating effect between them including theoutcome expectation of knowledge sharing, affective commitment and evaluationapprehension. Design/methodology/approach-Based on a survey of503employees inChina, this study carries out demographic analysis, as the same time, applies regressionanalysis and the structural equation modeling (SEM) to investigate the research model.Findings-(1)Organization-based self-esteem and knowledge sharing differ significantlyin gender, work age and education.(2)Organization-based self-esteem influencesknowledge sharing (β=0.39, p<.001) positively.(3)Organization-based self-esteeminfluences outcome expectation (β=0.58, p<.001), affective commitment (β=0.60,p<.001) and evaluation apprehension (β=-0.51, p<.001) significantly.(4)Outcomeexpectation (β=0.24, p<.001), affective commitment (β=0.17, p<.001) and evaluationapprehension (β=-0.18, p<.001) influence knowledge sharing significantly.(5)Outcomeexpectation, affective commitment and evaluation apprehension partially mediate therelationship between organization-based self-esteem and knowledge sharing.
