The Research Of Road Words In Ancient Chinese

This paper starting with the original meaning of the words, inspected thewords in the ancient literature to identify which related with “road”, andexplicated, classified them and constructed the semantic field. This paperconsists of the following parts:Chapter Ⅰ is the prolegomenon. First, it made a definition of ancientChinese and road words. Then, summarized the achivements and shortcomingsof previous research. And elaborated the significance and methods of research.Also clarified the scope of research corpus.Chapter Ⅱ studied the words about “land” in ancient Chinese. Thesewords were divided into three categories based on semantic meaning: road, streetand path. According to their appearing time, it disscused their meanings,evolution and differences. Besides, their using frequency and scope were alsodisscused.Chapter Ⅲ studied the words about “waterway” in ancient Chinese. It wasdivided into two parts for disscussion: the words on “water transmit” and thewords on “ferry port”. Focused on the analysis of their semantic connotation,using scope and differences.Chapter Ⅳ is epilogue. It summsrized the road words in ancient Chinese,and concluded the characteristics of vocabulary and meaning were reflected inthe road words in ancient Chinese.
