Housing is one of the most basic needs in human’s life, and it graduallybeing concerned in recent years. In the case of high house price, renting has becomean important means to solve housing. There were a lot of renting phenomenon in theSong Dynasty, and the tenants are from the level of prime minster to the level ofcivilians. This paper intends to specifically elaborate the rent groups, and annualizethe social reality the renting phenomenon reflects, as well as hope to have someimplications for understanding and solving today’s housing problems on the base ofoverall grasp of the prosperous rental industry in the Song Dynasty.This paper is divided into seven parts. The introduction part mainly reviews theacademia’s research on the issue of rent, and points out the conclusive results and therelatively neglected one, and defines the related concepts and clarifies the researchingideas and methods. Chapter one: Describe the renting phenomenon before SongDynasty, and point out the rent characteristics in different times. Chapter two: Analyzethe reason and performance of rental industry and outline the overall conditions of therenting phenomenon in Song Dynasty. Chapter three: Analyze the causes and impactsof officials’ renting from the point of officials’ house renting in Song Dynasty.Chapter four: Indicate the military camp conditions and discuss the characteristics andinfluence of army renting in Song Dynasty. Chapter five: Reflect the general sense ofrenting though analyzing the need of renting for member of the royal, examinee,businessmen and poor residents. Conclusion: Summarize the above and analyze theactual sense of renting.
