The Effect Of Illustration On High School Students’ Eye Movements In Reading Newspapers

Reading is the reader encodes visual input language materials and access to information, extract the significance of psychological process. This reading is not a single reading of text, it contains various forms of reading, which also includes illustrations of the reading. Illustrations as a form of reading has become an important area of research reading. Inset effect in reading information and processing information. While previous studies have mainly focused on the study of effects of illustrations in the textbooks, illustrations of other kinds of reading materials is less involved. And newspapers as the main media, and through the relevant position, illustrations, images and illustrations combine color and eye movement research, expand the scope of inset effect.Use TobiiT120eye-movement apparatus, this paper selected the88high school students, and study their illustrations effect when reading a newspaper.2(location) x2(color) x2(correlation) experiments, the position and color variables for the subjects between variables, correlation variables for variables in the subjects. Each high school students will read four news, through to the main eye movement indicators and reading scores for exploration, the following conclusions:(1) The illustrations fixation time, fixation times, different position of eye movement index differences, shown as the middle illustration better than black and white illustrations group.(2) Different colours illustrations fixation time, fixation times eye movement index differences, performance for color illustrations better than black and white illustrations.(3) Different associated illustrations fixation time, fixation times eye movement index differences, two imprison, show the pictures and content on the picture illustration the effect is better than nothing to do with the content, but in when the participants read text, correlation is difference. (4) In terms of reading performance, and the location of the illustrations, colour produced significant differences in reading scores, correlation index, show the illustrations in the middle grades above and below, the color is higher than black and white, illustrations and newspaper content related to the above has nothing to do with the newspaper content.
