Interpretation is a mental task characterized by high-intensity and instantaneity, information coming and going very fast. According to memory keeping mode of neurolinguistics and psycholinguistics, people can not keep information for a long time only by short-term memory. At the same time short-term memory can be easily affected by the outside world. Therefore, note-taking plays an indispensable role in consecutive interpretation.Through experimental analysis, this essay aims to discover the problems in MTI beginners’note-taking and therefore offer ways to solve the problems.First of all, consecutive interpretation is introduced. The second chapter discusses the relevant concepts of note-taking in consecutive interpretation, including, its definition, ways to establish a proper note-taking system, necessity of it, the disturbing factors in it. Then Gile’s Effort Model of Consecutive Interpretation is put forward. In the third chapter, experimental method is employed to analyze note-taking problems of4MTI beginners of one university in Tianjin and factors that trigger the problems. In the end, the results of the experiment are summarized and relevant methods are proposed to solve note-taking problems. At the same time, note-taking imitation teaching method is recommended, with the aim to improve the MTI beginners’note-taking skills in consecutive interpretation.The experiment material comes from Remarks of Hu Jintao at the Opening Ceremony of2005Fortune Global Forum. With a moderate speaking speed and proper content, it is suitable for consecutive interpretation. However, there are a lot of concepts, numbers, complex sentences which need all subjects to take note. From their notes, problems can be found and corresponding measures can be proposed.
