The study in this thesis is based on a comprehensive summary of the previoustheories put forward by the predecessors. Firstly, a contrastive analysis on the Chinesedouble-object construction and its English counterpart is conducted from these aspects,which include their definitions, double-object verbs, double-object sentence patterns,their variations and etc.Secondly, the similarities and differences of the double-object constructions bothin English and Chinese are summarized from their features. Meanwhile, in the terms oftheir perspective involvements and the different linguistic thinking systems theybelong to, the underlying reasons leading to all the differences are analyzed. Thirdly,with the CSL students in Hunan University and East China Normal University as theresearch objects, types of error of the Chinese double-object constructions and theirperspective ratio are represented in the form of charts. All these conclusions are basedon the questionnaires finished by these students. All the questionnaires are about theacquisition of the Chinese double-object constructions for students learning Chinese asa second language.Meanwhile, with the aide of the Second Language Acquisition Theory,Inter-language Theory and relevant theories of error analysis, errors of the secondlanguage acquisition of the double-object construction are classified, and factorscausing them are also discussed. Lastly, an analysis on the current situation of theChinese double-object construction of foreign students with Chinese as a foreignlanguage is given, and some teaching strategies and methods of the construction areadvocated based on all the above studies. Besides, other suggestions on classroomteaching, the compilation of textbooks and the designation of exercises are also putforward.This thesis has managed to make some breakthroughs in a contrastive study onChinese double-object construction and its English counterpart, and its research resultwould help students learning Chinese as a foreign language to avoid or decrease theirerrors in this construction.
