Junichirou Tanizaki, the master of Japanese Aestheticism is a writer who has a varietyof contacts with China in all his life. He not only influenced by Chinese culture, but alsohad traveled to China two times. He got the perception of China through the contact withChinese classical literature and Chinese dishes when he was a child, and produced a specialfeeling toward China. Influenced by the specialSocial background in Taisho period,Tanizaki’s Chinese complex transformed into “Chinese interest”. On the Stimulation ofspecial feelings to China, Tanizaki wrote a series of Chinese theme works. In this paper, Iwill study his Chinese theme novels which was a part of his Chinese theme works.Generally speaking, bordered by the first trip to China in1918, Tanizaki’s creation ofChinese theme novels could be divided into earlier period and later period. With thechanges in his perception of China, his earlier-period creation and later-period creation alsoshow the different character. the study of this paper will combine not only Tanizaki’spersonal experience or the special social background in Taisho period, but also Tanizaki’sArtistic view and literary viewpoint of Aestheticism, With his ideas and opinions in therelated works as a reference, grasp the changes of his creation on the overall. This paper payclose attention to these two major problems:first, What is Chinese image like in Tanizaki’sworks and how he describe it; second, how the aesthetic consciousness of Tanizakiembodied in his works, what kind of beauty he shape and perform. The full text consists ofthree parts: the Introduction, the main text and the conclusion.In the introduction, firstintroduce the author and his school, then describe the object of this study and researchmethods.The main text is made up of three chapters: In chapter one, we discuss Tanizaki’sChinese complex from his influence by Chinese culture, his trip to China and his creation ofChinese theme novels. In chapter two, we start from Tanizaki’s early Artistic view, analysishis Chinese theme novels before his first trip to China, point out China he has described inthis period’s works is not a real world,but a illusion China originate from Chinese classicliterature and author’s fantasy. In chapter three, we start from Tanizaki’s “Chinese interest”,analysis his Chinese theme novels after his first trip to China, point out China which he hasdescribed in this period’s works is a vision China that he has transform the real China in hismind, then discuss the beautiful woman the fine view and the delicious food of China in hisworks. Finally, summarize the research results of this paper in the conclusion.
