Research On The Ability Evaluation Of Industrial Designers

33years ago, Hayes, the Harvard University professor used to predict that:"Enterprises rely on price competition now, then, it will depend on the quality competition tomorrow and design competition in the future." Today, the prediction is proved by the development of the numerous enterprise facts, industrial design has become the source of competition and one of the core competitiveness of manufacturing industry competition. As the main body of design, industrial designers play a vital role. Whether the design work can be taken efficiently and orderly is depended on the Industrial designer’s ability. However, theory and practice of industrial designers’ ability evaluation is insufficient. The priority is to establish a scientific and practical industrial designers’ ability evaluation system.Based on the carding and analysis of ability theory and the current situation of the industrial designer’s ability structure, this paper builds industrial designers’ ability evaluation index system on the basis of componential sub-theory, determines the weight by the questionnaire survey method and analytic hierarchy process. The full text divides into five chapters and the main contents are as follows:In the first chapter, on the basis of collection and analysis of the domestic and foreign general ability theory, the classification of the industrial designers’ competence and the current situation of industrial designers’ ability evaluation, we find out the problems existing in the ability evaluation of the industrial designers and put forward the purpose, significance and importance in this paper.The second chapter analyzes the industrial designers’ professional and ability characteristics based on the ability theory and defines the connotation of industrial designers and their ability; Combing the current situation of industrial designers’ classification of the ability structure, it also analyzes contrastively and digs deep the shortage and points out the necessity of constructing ability structure system by the systematic theory.Based on the meaning and the content of metacomponents, performance components, knowledge-acquisition components in the componential sub-theory of Sternberg’s " Triarchic Theory of Intelligence ", the third chapter builds the industrial designer’s ability structure system and carries out the detailed explanation of the constituent elements and content of the ability. In the fourth chapter, this paper builds industrial designers’ ability evaluation index system based on the industrial designer’s ability structure system and expert advice and determines the survey plan and establishes industrial designers’ ability index weight calculation model by the analytic hierarchy process.The fifth chapter puts the grading results into the industrial designers’ ability index weight calculation model and calculates each ability index weight of the senior, intermediate and primary industrial designers respectively and draws the conclusion through comparison analysis.The sixth chapter summarizes the full text, points out the innovations and limitations of this article and clears the next research direction.This study uses the general ability structure theory to deduce the elements system of the industrial designers’ability structure whose weights are determined by the investigation method and analytic hierarchy process. It has been clear about the focus of the ability and the increasing direction of the designers at all levels and provides guidance for ability evaluation and training.
