| Although many linguists regard vocabulary as the basic element of language and theypropose that it is vitally important for the learners to master the vocabulary, the Englishlearners of different levels consider that learning vocabulary is probably themost intractable part of English study. At the same time, learners have formed their own habitof memorizing the new vocabularies by reading or copying them again and again. This waymakes learners soon feel tired and lose interest in vocabulary learning. Especially whenlearners who have leant English for several years want to communicate with the overseaspeople even with their fellows, they couldn’t blurt out a complete sentence and then feelawkward. Learners make a complaint that they obtain some vocabulary but they don’t havethe ability to use them freely to communicate in the real situation.Detecting more effectiveways of English vocabulary teaching is a vital factor for the teachers of the advancedtechnical school to improve English learning effect of the advanced technical school student.Nowadays, a lot of researchers and teachers have considered that the Task-basedInstruction is important because it combines language forms and language meanings togetherand it helps learners to master the English vocabulary through learners finishing the designedcommunication assignment. Task-based Instruction is one of the effective ways of teachingmethodology because it helps the learners to learn something in the real-world contexts. In theprocess of problem-solving, the specific objectives will be completed by the learners throughpractice, interaction, communication and cooperation, so the learning interest can becultivated and ability of communicating and problems solving also can be developed.Researchers and teachers have made a great deal of investigation about learning Englishvocabulary, but they don’t attach much importance to investigate the vocabulary teaching inadvanced technical school.On the basis of the predecessors and prior scholar, the thesis intends to prove thepracticality and effectiveness of TBI in vocabulary teaching in the advanced technical schoolthrough the experiment in the classroom. This thesis focuses on whether Task-basedInstruction in English vocabulary teaching is more effective than traditional teaching in the advanced technical school. The paper also intends to focus on whether Task-based Instructioncan stimulate learners’ interest in English vocabulary learning.The subjects come from Class One and Class Two, Grade one in the advanced technicalschool. As the experimental class, class1will employ the TBI. As the control class, class2will employ the traditional English vocabulary teaching. The author completed the experimentby the end of2012and analyzed the data collected from the information of pre-test, post-test,questionnaire by using SPSS16.0.The results of the experiment indicate that Task-based vocabulary teaching method hasits superiority. The experimental class had a better performance in vocabulary learning,memorizing and applying and overall English comprehensive proficiency as well comparedwith the control class.Obviously, TBI plays a positive role in vocabulary teaching in advanced technical school.Nevertheless, we should try to solve the problems appeared in the process of the experiment.The author also indicates some suggestions for the better implementation of TBI in theEnglish vocabulary teaching in the future. At last, the research needsfurther perfection, and accepts examination in the teaching practice. In the end of thethesis, some implications and suggestions are provided. |
