On The English Translation Of Government Web Portals In Hubei Province From Reception Aesthetics

With the further reform and opening-up to the outside world, China has seen an increasing number of political communications, business connections and cultural exchanges with the rest of the world over several decades. As the largest developing country over the world, China’s international status has increased remarkably. The whole world is watching China with great interest, and eager to know more about China. Hubei province, the birthplace of Chu culture, attaches great importance to political, economical and cultural fields of China. With the implementation of the national strategy of Midlands Rise, many consulates and world’s top five-hundred enterprises have settled in Hubei. Hubei is in need of a brand-new appearance to welcome the world, being more comprehensive and in-depth to show itself to the rest of the world. However due to the different cultural background and limited translation ability, foreign audients still have little understanding of Hubei Province, and even some misunderstandings towards Hubei province. Therefore, there is in a great demand of excellent international communication to project China’s image and spread her positive voice. In the meanwhile, it can make much contribution to not only the communication and understanding between Hubei province and the outside world, but also great-leap-forward development of economic and cultural communications in Hubei province.Reception theory, also known as "reception aesthetics", is a literary theory as well as an aesthetic one, mainly represented by Jauss and Iser honored as Twin Stars of the University of Constance. Jauss paid close attention to rebuilding a methodology of literature study to integrate the history with the aesthetics, especially the historical reception in the literary history. While Iser, strived to analyze the reader response mechanism hidden in the structure of the text from the perspective of phenomenology.In this dissertation, the author apply the theory of Reception Aesthetics, makes a comprehensive analysis on the English translation of government web portals, and puts forward some suggestions for translators engaged in the process of translation.In this thesis six chapters are divided and the first chapter mainly introduces the study background and the organization of the thesis. The second chapter focuses on the literature review at home and abroad, and the development and limitations of the study. In third chapter the theoretical foundation and research methods are illustrated in detail. The fourth chapter systematically analyses the English translation of government web portals in Hubei province from Reception Aesthetics. Chapter five gives suggestions based on Reception Aesthetics for translators translating for government portals in Hubei province. In the conclusion part, the author summarizes and points out the limitations of this study with suggestions for the future study.
