Language, a tool for people to communicate, is a kind of symbol used by acountry or a nation in social communication. Meanwhile, as an integral part ofnational culture, it is the cultural carrier and accumulation. Besides, language is amirror which reflects and reveals the culture content. By language, people canunderstand customs, lifestyles, thinking patterns and other cultural characteristicsof the nation.In communication, the phatic is indispensable. As the lubricating oil ofinterpersonal relationship, it plays an important role in promoting people’s socialactivities to go on smoothly. The purpose of exchange is not only to conveyinformation, but also to pursue communication between minds.Since ancient times, Japan and China are neighbors separated only by a stripof water. As both countries are among the Chinese character cultural cycle, acommon profound origin existed in their history and culture. However, with thechanging times and cultural development, specific approaches in maintaininginterpersonal relationship begin to differ between Japanese and Chinese. Due toJapanese and Chinese insufficient cognition and understanding of such differentcharacteristics during international exchanges, misunderstanding and disputesoften occur. Therefore, for Chinese students to learn Japanese well, they must learnJapanese culture well at the same time.This paper gives detailed analysis on the using of daily Japanese phatic andfurther discusses its relation with Japanese culture.This paper consists of five parts.In the first chapter of introduction, the topic is introduced first. Then theresearch motive, purpose and significance are set forth in details, and a comparisonis made with the domestic and abroad early study.In the second chapter is the origin, classification, characteristics and changesof phatic. States are given on what it is and on how Japan and China define it. Byconcrete examples its classification methods are analyzed, and its uniquecharacteristics and new changes are stated as well. In the third chapter is the analysis of phatic communion at different scenesand the notes for Chinese students. Detailed analysis of temporal communion,communion at meeting and leaving, petitionary communion, communion at giftreception and at going in and out of home and communion for gratitude andapology is given. In addition, the notes for Chinese students are stated as well.In the fourth chapter is the influence of Japanese culture on phaticcommunion. Through stating geographical conditions, national characteristics andpsychological consciousness in Japan, the effects of the Japanese spirit of “peace”,natural consciousness of “transmission from mind to mind” and collectivism onphatic communion are analyzed.In the fifth chapter is the conclusion of this paper and the subject in the future.
