Practice Report On The Translation Project Of Parker Hannifin

With the further development of globalization and marketlization, more and more foreign corporations and organizations set branches and offices in the mainland of China. High-level and professional translation talents in practical fields are in great demand to meet the need of integration with the global economy. As a student of MTI, I have a deep understanding of professional translation as a translation intern in Parker Hannifin. Based on this work experience and in combination with traditional translation theory and method acquired in school, I make a conclusion of the general procedure taken in project translation, mainly including preparation matters before translation, schedule control and quality control during translation, as well as summarization and evaluation after completion. This paper also gives an analysis on the linguistic characteristics of regulatory texts on the basis of a project translation work of " Global Directives-EHS ". Based on these characteristics, the paper further puts forward translation principles:accurate, professional and coherent, as well as translation strategies and methods of regulatory works under through several cases. In a word, text characteristics decide translation principles, which further guide the flexible choice of strategies.
