With economic and cultural globalization, the tourism industry has also steppedinto a new field. Cultural tourism is becoming more and more popular in the tourismindustry. Baotu Spring culture is a regional symbol with its specific features and actsas one of the best representatives of traditional Chinese culture. Translation of BaotuSpring tourism literature accounts much in publicizing Baotu Spring culture as well asChinese culture. However,the recent translation of Baotu Spring tourism literature isrelatively rare and unsatisfying.The main purpose of Baotu Spring tourism literature is to offer tourists thenecessary historical and cultural information to help them understand Baotu Springculture and even Chinese culture further. During translation, translators shouldachieve informative function of the target text. Based on Nord’s translation orientedtext analysis model,the author analyzes the extra-and intratextual factors of BaotuSpring tourism literature. Then, the author points out the differences between Chineseand English tourism literature in terms of Baotu Spring tourism literature and figuresout the errors in the present translation of Baotu Spring tourism literature. It isconcluded that Chinese tourism literature tends to employ flowery diction, rhetoricdevices, abundant quotations and changing angle of view to describe mental pictures,while English ones are always organized in a concise and informal way as well asconsistent angle of view and objective description.In the light of translation theory, the author notices that the common problemsabout Baotu Spring tourism literature mainly fall into three types, covering linguistic,pragmatic and cultural translation problems, while the text specific problems arerelatively rare. The translation problems are mainly due to the following factors,including the translators’ inadequate linguistic competence, ignorance of thetranslation purpose, lack of intercultural awareness and so on. On the basis of detailedand practical analysis of Baotu Spring tourism literature, the author of this thesistentatively proposes three main principles guiding translation of tourism literature, including the target-addressee orientation principle, Chinese culture-oriented principleand adaptation principle. Then, in order to satisfy the expectations of target readersabout Baotu Spring tourism literature, the author adopts four translation strategies,namely, omission, rewriting, transliteration and explanation as well as amplification.
