With the increasing number of worldwide Chinese language learners and the successive foundation of Confucius Institutes throughout the world, the development of Teaching Chinese as a ForeignLanguage (TCFL) has become an irreversible trend nowadays. Network buzzwords, which can be considered as the most active part ofChinese vocabulary teaching, are of vital importance to TCFL inmodern society, and thus it’s necessary for us to focus on and make acomprehensive study of this special part in Chinese languageteaching.Language reflects social development, social conditions and customs, together with people’s mentality. Network buzzwords, as asocial, cultural, and linguistic phenomenon, is being widely used indaily life, reflecting such factors involving the society, language andmentality; therefore, the study of the network buzzwords is of vitalsignificance.This thesis explores relating network buzzwords to the intermediate and high levels (or senior level) of oral Chinese language teaching. It firstly defines the notion of network buzzwords, laying thefoundation for the following parts. Then it analyzes the positionand impact of network buzzwords in teaching practice from three different aspects of sociology, linguistics and psychology. Next, thequestionnaire is designed on the basis of the above theory to further understand the current situation of teaching network buzzwords inTCFL classes, and thus put forward a teaching speculation for highand intermediate level oral Chinese language teaching from such aspects as teaching resources, teaching purposes, teaching contentsand teaching methods. Finally, the author proposes several teachingsuggestions on the basis of her own experience of teaching networkbuzzwords in senior oral classes of TCFL, hoping that network buzzwords teaching can arouse the interest and concern in the field ofTCFL, and be implemented in the teaching practice, thus offeringreference for Chinese language teaching practice in the future.
