A Study Of Translatability

In recent years, as scholars’researches on translation skills are more and more comprehensive, research results are becoming more and more prominent. That what is translation skill is the core issue we students should first grasp. Translation skill, as it implies, is specific translation methods concluded and accumulated by translators through long-term translation practice. There are mainly nine kinds of translation skills commonly used, including literal translation, free translation, division, synthesization, amplification, omission, variation, adverse translation and so on.This thesis is titled On Translation Skill of Addition on the Basis of the Translation of the Book Physics. The purpose of addition is to make the translated text loyal to the original version, to make the languages used conform to the language habit of the target language. During the process of translation, the translator should not change the quality and quantity of the content and infomation carried by the original text, but try to convey to the readers connotations, thus giving readers an accurate understanding of the original text.This thesis, on the basis of the translation practice of the book "Physics", will make an analysis of addition translation skill by analyzing examples in the translation process of this book. On the basis of translating, analyzing and classifying, by combing specific cases where addition translation skill is adopted in the translation of the book, the author divide the addition translation skill into four categories, namely, structural addition, explanatory addition, logical addition and modification addition. By analyzing each specific addition translation method and summarizing problems which acquire extra attention, the author aims to deepen the understanding of the addition translation methods, to skillfully apply it in the translation practice, and to improve the quality of translated text.
