This research studies the changes of women’s hair style in the period of the Republic of China and its narration in the Chinese modern literature. It is to show the process of woman’s hairstyle under the cultural and political discipline, discuss the text situation of woman’s hairstyle and its symbolic meaning.The paper has3chapters. In chapter one, it combs the history of woman’s haircut from late Qing Dynasty to earlier Min, and the political features of anti-feudalism and revolution during the process. Also, it combs the trend of woman’s perm in the late20’s and30’s, and the modern feature of female individual identity and gender consciousness during the process. At the same time, it also analyzes the short try to aesthetic significance of woman’s hair style.In Chapter two, it mainly uses six literary works from20’s to40’s to show the construction of semiotic significances of woman’s haircut, which from anti-feudalism in the enlightment literature to the revolution in the revolution literature of20’s and40’s.In Chapter three, it mainly uses new feeling literary works and Zhang Ailing’s works to show the construction of modern significance of woman’s perm in the urban literature, and it also analyzes the similarities and differences between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party to the phenomenon and metaphor of female perm.Finally,the text utilizes the change of hair style and the role in modern literary narration to show the meaning of the construction of woman’s hair style and female image in the modern literature.
