The development Tu-an theory has experienced a process from scratch.The scholars in China create the modern Tu-an education through learning from other countries and self construction during this process.Many scholars wrote books and developed theories for the development of Tu-an teaching.The scholars had similar understanding of the meaning of Tu-an.But the expression of the Tu-an's connotation have slight deviations as the scholars had different educational background and practical experience.The Tu-an textbooks at this period learned relatively more from Japan.The textbooks focus on the technical subjects,which were mainly used for secondary vocational education,complementary with primary education and higher education.The joint efforts of the scholars formed the overall outlook of the Tu-an theory in the period of Republic of China.The orientation of the textbooks established the public awareness of Tu-an subject and influenced the direction of Tu-an development in China directly.Even after the founding of new China as well as the recent period of industrial arts and art design concept discussion,the sketch teaching method change,with discussion,Bauhaus design teaching method all show the influence of the period of the Republic of China.In the new era,the scope of ‘design'has a further expanding.The distinction between the meaning of ‘Tu-an' and ‘modern design' began to emerge.The controversy of the connotation of “Tu-an” can be regarded as a ‘historical issues'.Many scholars tried to research and analyze the meaning and scope of ‘Tu-an' to clarify the facts of it.This paper tries to learn from the Tu-an textbooks in the period of Republic of China,analyze the background of thetextbooks,the adoption situations of the textbooks in school,the detail aspects of the text,and the influence to the industrial art and the teaching methods,in order to reproduce the outlook of ‘Tu-an' in the period of Republic of China.And this paper also tries to provide more information and historical perspective to the ‘Tu-an' study.
