Zhao Huaiyu(1747-1823), styled Yisun and assumedly named Weixin, was a significant Ci poet during the mid Qing Dynasty. Born in a government official family, Zhao was the great-grandson of Zhao Shenqiao, the minister then. Zhao Huaiyu had witnessed the change of reign of Emperor Qian Long, Jia Qing and Dao Guang. During the45th Year of Emperor Qian Long, Zhao was selected as the successful candidate in the imperial examinations, and was awarded as the Executive Secretariat in the Cabinet, and worked as a magistrate of a prefecture in Chongzhou, Shandong Province then. In Zhao’s late years, he was mainly teaching in Wenzheng Academy of Tongzhou, Jiangsu Province, Guanzhong Academy of Shanxi Province and Aishan Academy of Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. His masterpieces include the two-volume "Yi You Sheng Zhai-Collection of Yuefu Songs", thirty-two-volume "Yi You Sheng Zhai-Collection of Poems", twenty-volume "Yi You Sheng Zhai-Collection of Proses" as well as five-volume "Yi You Sheng Zhai-Collection of Ci Poetries".The author first systemizes and verifies the life story, family background and social intercourse of Zhao Huaiyu. In terms of family background, the author mainly tries to probe into the impact of the family relations to Zhao Huaiyu; As for social intercourse, the author tries to get a clear understanding about the scope and feature of Zhao Huaiyu’s social companies, as well as its impact to Zhao. Secondly, the author studies in a systematic way the Ci works and poetry ideology of Zhao Huaiyu, aiming at summarizing the style, feature and ideology of Zhao’s Ci poetries, and the very impact to his age. Last, concerning the style change of Ci poetry circle in the mid Qing dynasty, the author analyzes the relationship between Zhao Huaiyu and Ci poetry circle of mid Qing dynasty, and tries to drive to conclude the impact of Ci poetry circle of mid Qing dynasty to Zhao and the reasons thereinto.This article aims to analyze Zhao Huaiyu and his Ci poetries in a systematic way, concerning his life, family background, as well as social intercourse at the same time. The appendix is the chronicle about Zhao Huaiyu, which first relatively and completely show his life experience and his creation. To more clearly reflect the influence of life experience to his creation and the thoughts of Ci, this part tries to show the trajectory of Zhao Huaiyu’s literature.
