Wu Yuan (1638-1700), whose literary name was Len Xiang, titled as Lu Yuan or Ling Tan, was born in She Xian county in Qing Dynasty. When he was a teenager, he studied in Mei Zhuang. After the armed rebellion, he sojourned in Yangzhou and Nanjing in order, made friends with famous poets via poems and was valued by the world at that time. His opuses include Beiyishanren’s Collection, and Great Landscape records. The only remaining book is the ten volumes of Beiyishanren’s Collection. This thesis studies Wu from his life experiences, travel ling and friends, poetic arts and inters group relation. This paper contains the following parts specifically:The first part, introduction, briefly narrates the theme purpose, the cause and significance, the present researching situation and so on. In addition, the author expounds the innovation of this paper and explicates the study lines and methods.Chapter one mainly investigates Wu’s family background, lifetime experiences, and literature works. The family background part emphasizes the analysis of the influence by Chinese tradition of family, such as literature, loyalty and filial piety. Wu’s lifetime experiences follow in detail in order to look into the characteristics of his nature and thoughts. Finally, the research on his works is over-viewed by concrete textual criticism of the version issue of Wu’s poems collection.Chapter two teases out Wu’s experiences of making friends. First of all, the author sketches contours of the scope and feature of his touring and friend-making. Afterwards, the detailed discussions on his selected close friends are set out.Chapter Three, mainly studies on the body of poetry, form the categories of subject-matter and basic Images, analyzes the Style Feature overall Beiyishanren’s Collection, and is also the key part of This paperAt last, a chronicle of Wu’s life and the table of the scope and feature of his Friend-making offered in the Appendix.
