Xuchu (1605-1676), his literary name was Fangchen, titled as Luieting or hingyan. He was born in Shexian county in Ming Dynasty. Entered the poem school in his childhood, Xuchu was famous for his writings and valued by the world at that time. After the coup in1644, he travelled around the landscapes, visited the righteous governors, investigated the martyrs’anecdotes and made friends with sages by poems. He was a classical adherent of Ming Dynasty. His opuses include Chingyan’s Collection, The Poor Records, Adherents Set, Xin’an Anecdotes and the alike. The only remaining book is the twelve volumes of Chingyan’s Collection. This thesis studies Xuchu from his life experiences, travelling and friends, poetic thoughts and arts as well as geographical and cultural values. This paper contains the following parts spicificly:The first part, introduction, briefly narrates the theme purpose, the cause and significance, the present researching situation and so on. In addition, the author expounds the innovation of this paper and explicates the study lines and methods.Chapter one mainly investigates Xuche’s extraction, lifetime experiences, and literature works. The investigation to Xuchu’s extraction lays particular emphasis on analyzing the influence by Chinese tradition of family, such as literature, force, loyalty and filial piety. Xuchu’s lifetime experiences follow in detail in order to look into the characteristics of his nature and thoughts. Finally, the research on his works is overviewed by generating all kinds of writing materials and concrete textual criticism of the version issue of Chingyan’s poems collection.Chapter Two teases out Xuchu’s experiences of making friends. First of all, the author sketches contours of the scope and feature of his touring and friend-making. Soon afterwards, the detailed discussions on his selected closely friends are set out, which is divided into the adherents and literature artists. Chapter Three, mainly studies on the verse thoughts and the literature features of Xuchu’s works. As the key part, this chapter analyzes the mood and formative background of his poems firstly, and then follows the literature features, which is dissected from poems and essays.Chapter Four discusses on the geographical cultural values of his poems, including the regional ecological historical values and cultural values. The regional ecological values concentrate on his writings or records on the landscape and historical literature celebrities in Huizhou; while the cultural values was expanded from the literature hinge position of the whole Huizhou and Xuchu’s records towards the literature activities.At last, a chronicle of Xuchu’s life is offered in the Appendix.
