This is a translation project report of Journal of the Economic and Social History of the Orient, whose author is the renowned Dutch scholar Harriet T. Zurndorfer. The report excerpts the35th volume of the journal, a comparative study of education in Huichow (Anhwei) and Foochow (Fukien)1600-1800, as the material for translation. There are four parts in this report:part one is about the background of this translation project, including its source, significance and structure; part two is about the source text, including its author, original edition and main content; part three is about the quality control during the translation process, including its major problems that have hindered the translation and selection, introduction and application of the guiding theory involved; part four concludes the report with the enlightenment and lessons and the problems that remain to be solved. During the whole process, the Functional Equivalence Theory is chosen as the guiding theory, combined with some practical strategies, to handle the problems in the process.
