This is a project report on the translation of the fourth chapter of the first part of Capitalism Without Capital, published on November 28,2017,which was co-created by Jonathan Haskel and Stian Westlake, the Imperial College professors. The book mainly discusses that intangible assets investment have influence on the national economy and accounts, besides,it also proves that with the development of society and changes of time, every country has increased his investment in intangible assets and provided a new idea of the assessment of intangible assets' future development.Since the author had previously contacted the translations of relevant economic books and showed great interest in these books, the author chose this book as the source text of the report. The chapters selected focus on the four characteristics that distinguish intangible assets investment from tangible assets investment, highlighting why intangible assets play an important role in today's capitalist economy, which is also an important part of the book.Since the book is economy-related,the source text contains financial and technological background information. In addition to a large number of economic terms, the source text has some long and difficult sentences on science and technology, various noun clauses and active and passive sentences, the author encountered some difficulties in dealing with these.Considering these problems, the author combined the previous experience of translation and finds that the theory of functional equivalence is more suitable for guiding the translation of this kind of texts.Meanwhile, the author also used the formal equivalence, semantic equivalence and stylistic equivalence in functional equivalence theory to translate the source text. The value of this translation project lies in helping more and more people learn that today's economic society is changing a lot and be familiar with characteristics of intangible economy.During the process of project, the author learned a lot,not only getting inspiration from the translation, absorbing experiences learned from the translation, but also grasping the meaning of translation of the source text, that is to say, transferring the original meaning of the source text, meanwhile transmitting foreign background economic information. In addition, through this practice of translation, the author also understood how to deal with the translation of economic texts, knew the characteristics of such texts and accumulated translation experience.Through a lot of translation practice, the author's translating level has been improved, which lays a solid foundation for future translation.
