Since the beginning of the 21st century, exchanges among countries have become increasingly frequent and the role of translators has become primarily important.Meanwhile, the research on translation field has gradually been extensive in depth and width and the text type of translation has been more diversified. In view of the increasing morality loss and bad behaviors in the current society, the author intends to give people a thorough understanding of ethical development and challenges we encounter today, taking The Ethical Project as the translation material for research and analysis.Being rich in its content, the chosen part shows readers the major reasons and manifestations affecting people's ethical judgments with many examples.Hence, the project has both theoretical and practical significance. The functional equivalence theory proposed by Nida requires the most natural equivalence between the source and target language, which can be applied to the translation of social science texts due to their accuracy, strictness and specialty in content. The author employs case analysis at lexical level, syntactic level and textual level in this report.Considering the difference in Chinese and English language, various skills are adopted in the process of translation, such as amplification, omission, the change of word order and division,to provide a full understanding of the original work for readers.Besides, the author hopes not only to improve the translation ability, but also to provide useful references for other translators in related fields. This report consists of four parts.Firstly,it gives an introduction of the whole translation project, including the background and the reason for choosing the text, characteristics of the text and the significance of the translation project.Secondly,it describes the translation process of the chosen text and the completion process of the project.Thirdly, case studies are conducted on the key and difficult points by means of using different translation skills under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.Lastly,it summarizes the lessons drawn on the translation practice and points out the problems to be solved.
