The Garden And Literature Of Anhui Merchants In Yangzhou City During The Former And Middle Period Of Qing Dynasty

Gardens have variety kinds in our country, such as royal gardens, private gardens, temple gardens. The Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty are the heyday during the period of classical garden development in our country, especially the private gardens developed best which regarded as one kind of cultural consumption. Layout and spots in the private gardens reflects the nature of the lord, and their ideology, also is the showcase geographical space and material carrier of the lord to display his spiritual pursuit and aesthetic ideal. And gardens is also the main place to make and meet friends,with letters and bureaucrats,or communicate their poetic lines.During the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, the merchant team grows up, their economic and social status are improved compared the previous generation, and they have close contacts and interactions with literati, senators.The Anhui merchants are typical in these businessmen which possess the merchant identity but are fond of Confucianism. As a kind of cultural consumption,design gardens and the life of the garden become the pursuit of social fashion by the Anhui merchants.They build large quantities of gardens in Yangzhou, poets gathered to hold activities frequently,"Confucians" and "Merchants get along well with each other. Huizhou gardens gradually become the center of the literati set replacing the literati gardens, this change had a profound effect.This paper takes the former-middle Qing Dynasty period as the target period and gardens of the Anhui merchants in Yangzhou as the research object, selecting several typical gardens such as the Xiao Yu garden of Cheng Mengxing, the Xiu garden of Zheng,and the Kang Shan garden of Jiang Chun.Through the literary activities, dramas and investigate on the main characters to analysis the influence of gardens on literatures,and the effect of the changes throughout the literature.This paper mainly divides into three chapters. The first chapter analysis the influence of Xiao Yu garden which as the private area and public area.This part introduce Cheng Mengxing’life,his literature works and the background of purchase this garden.This garden has a great affection on Cheng Mengxing’s literature creation and other scholar’s garden creation activity,as a public events area.The second chapter studies the activity of Xiu Yu garden.This part discusses deeply from several angles,such as the history of Cheng family origin, family members of the literary activities and literary exchanges with other scholars, the reason of the Cheng family prosperous culture activity comes.The third chapter mainly introduces the drama activities and the influence of the Kang Shan garden. This chapter presents the stories ofJiangchun’s life and his "cloth turned over to the son of heaven" special identity, then mainly introduces Kang Shan drama activity of thatched cottage to thrive, to explore reasons of the historical and cultural drama activities flourish,Kang Shan thatched cottage of drama activities played a significant role both in Yangzhou and in the whole China.Except that,it also has made a contribution to the development of Beijing Opera in particular.
