Zhenguan Gongsi Hua Lu Textual Criticism And Studies

Pei Xiaoyuan ' s Zhenguan Gongsi Hua Shi,one ofthe most significant documents of Chinese art history in existence today;providing ansubstantial resource for historical research into the art of that dynasty.Just as?Si Ku Ti Yao?said:it's the oldest literature for connoisseur to refer to the ancient painting before the Sui Dynasty.However,due tothe complicated process of its transmission,combined with anomalies that arose duringits transcription and reprinting,differences between the text's more than one versionsproblematics its use as a reference.Even though existent versions of the text have beensubject to the amendations of our predecessors they remain even so imperfect,frequently neglectinga few key details available in other essential editions.Because of thisreason,the fundamental issues of the text already investigated by scholars in the pastremain worthy of further inquiry now.The thesis constitutes a foundational research and re-collation of Pei's Zhenguan Gongsi Hua Shi;its contents consist of two parts:in the first place,an amendation ofthe text;part two,a study ofcorrelative inquiries.In the first place,usual and formerly neglected shan-ben versions of Zhen Guan Gongsi Huashi are used to re-collate and amend its contents,offering a new syntactical reading of the text.In the next section,attention is given to collating a history of studies on the Zhenguan Gongsi Hua Shi;paying attention to matters of the text's historic editions and their origins.Finally,stating the inheritation and influence of painting description of the Zhenguan Gongsi Hua Shi.In this way,I hope the thesis can go forward on the basis of our predecessors' scholarly achievements.
