The Variorum Of The Eastern Han Dynasty Wood Slips Of The Eastern Archway Of Changsha City

In2004, some wood slips of the late period of the Eastern Han Dynasty were excavated in theancient well（coded J7）of the Eastern Archway of Changsha City, Hunan Province. The maincontents of these wood slips are official documents and private letters that were received anddispatched through post houses by Changsha Prefecture and Linxiang County, moreover, there aresome other slips.Scholars have gained many important achievements on not only text reading and explanation butalso related questions since the wood slips’ pictures were published. But no one gather thesescholarships up to now, therefore, it is necessary to make a comprehensive collection for furtherstudy.The content of this paper includes four parts:1.Introduction: firstly, we mainly introduce excavation, arrangement and main contents of thesewood slips. Secondly, we make a comparison of the pictures to find out the difference amongvarious descriptions. Thirdly, we summarize the overviews of present studies.2.Text: in this part, we attempt to give a more accurate text of these wood slips, which is based onthe researchers’texts and considers other scholars’views and our own.3.Variorum: this part is the major branch of the paper. We collect kinds of research findings oncontent explanation, word reading, system discussion and broken slips restoring. And we also giveour own viewpoints.4. Appendices: in this part, we make a summary of the conditions of these slip pictures which areincluded in different books by a tabulation. Otherwise, we join some broken slips together withhigh-definition pictures. Last, we compare the slip’s “the number of unearthed” with the“reorganized number” and revise some mistakes, then readers can use it expediently.
