The sweeping tide of globalization and informatization has brought increasingly worldwide exchanges. News has become one of the most direct and efficient means to exchange ideas and cultures under the global environment in which news translation has turned to be an important channel to realize it. This thesis aims at the analysis on the usage of E-C translation strategies, upon lexical and syntactic equivalence, in order to reach the purpose of similar readers’response both from the English news and the Chinese transcripts under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory.Firstly, based on news characteristics analysis of words, the thesis discusses the employment of buzz words, short words as well as vocabulary of images, which highlights the features of fashion, clearness and vividness in news. When there exist equivalent words both from the source and receptor language, the words are translated according to the context or by literal tranalation. On account of great differences in cultural background and way of think between Chinese and English, the words are failed to convey the meaning correctly through literally translating, free translation is adopted. Secondly, on the syntactic level, expanded simple sentences are frequently used for the addition of information and balancing the syntactic structure. Moreover, objectiveness and authoritativeness are embodied in the adoption of passive voice and quotations. With different grammatical structures in both languages, specific translation strategies such as same-order and sequence-change translation have been applied to fulfill the purpose of similar reading response from English and Chinese readers. This thesis analyzes the news language features and adopts different translation strategies to achieve the state of the closest natural functional equivalence in the process of E-C translation.
