Term Extraction And Translation In Translation Projects

The thesis discusses term extraction and translation in a specific translation project.The first chapter introduces how to use terminology tools to extract terms from a text andthen focuses on manual cleanup of the terms extracted, which is to remove the “noise”produced by extraction tool such as meaningless strings, general lexicon words, duplicatesor redundant compounds. In the meantime, different types of terms that are needed to becollected are also discussed which are not limited to proper nouns and subject-field termsin conventional sense, but also cover frequently-occurring words and highly visible words.Lastly, the thesis discusses that while translating terms, in addition to accuracy, the contextof the terms in the original text should also be taken into account.
