A Report On The Translation Of Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC Technical Reference Manual (Chapters 1-3)

The source text is selected from the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC Technical Reference Manual published by Xilinx,a famous American company.The author put the first three chapters,about 12,000 words,into Chinese.The Zynq-7000 extensible processing platform created by Xilinx offers an open design environment,so it is able to provide highly differentiated applications in automotive driver assistance,industrial motor control and video and night vision equipment.Translating the manual will undoubtedly deepen the author's understanding and application of translation theories,which is good for the future.Meanwhile,by providing a richer set of intuitive information the translation will play an important role in embedded software development.This paper is based on German Functionalist Translation Theory,especially the translation-oriented text analysis by Nord.As the source text belongs to the science and technology style with informative function and appellative function,the translator takes instrumental translation as the main strategy.In view of the large number of technical terms in EST literature,the extraction and translation of terminology become the basis of EST translation.In the process of translation,the translator explores the role of computer-aided translation in term extraction and translation.The term extraction is accomplished by the Multiterm component of Trados.In translating the terms,the translator should take the authority,word frequency and context into consideration to choose the proper sense of words.In this practice,the translator has benefited from the convenience due to the development of computer technology,recognized the deficiencies in professional field,and made clearer the striving direction in the future.
