The Study Of Ocean-Realated Novels During Tang And Five Dynasties

China is an ancient civilized country enjoying five thousand years of history. For such a long time, inland agriculture civilization has played a main role, yet marine civilization is also an essential part which is worth attention. This article focuses on the development of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties. This article discusses the topic from four aspects.First part:marine outlook from ancient times till pre-Tang and evolution course of ocean-related novels before Tang Dynasty. This part first introduces the historical background and social policies of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties, then concludes the marine outlook from ancient times till pre-Tang and reviews the development of Chinese ancient ocean-related novels from pre-Qin till pre-Tang.Second part:subject matters of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties. This part summarizes and classifies the subject matters of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties, mainly analyzing the subject matters of gods, marine adventures and overseas treasures.Third part:artistic features of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties. This part explores artistic features of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties from three aspects, namely vivid character personalities and superb image-shaping skills, poetic language arts and various narrative techniques.Fourth part:significance of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties. This part, based on the view of maritime literature development, first explores the influences of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties on those in the later ages. The influences are analyzed from the aspects of subject matter, plot pattern and narrative techniques. It then discusses the cultural significance of ocean-related novels during Tang and Five Dynasties from three aspects, namely marine mentality, seagod worship and the interaction between man and ocean.This article uses statistical method, comparative method, in combination with literature and history research methods, such as the overall study on the Marine in tang and five dynasties novels, to enhance ocean-related novels in tang and five dynasties in the position in the ocean literature.
