Labor economics texts provide scientific evidence for the conditions of people’sliving standard and even social stability. The translation of such texts plays a growingreferential role in domestic policymaking against the background of the internalizationof labor markets. Therefore, a precise and accurate translation of labor economics textsturns out to be an imperious demand.Duration Dependence and Labor Market Conditions: Evidence from a FieldExperiment is an academic paper of labor economics published in American QuarterlyJournal of Economics. This translation project report is written based on theindependent translation from English to Chinese of this academic paper by the author.In the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopostheorie, with respect to the features of laboreconomics academic texts which are being empirical study based and having a strongmathematical logic, the author discusses acceptable translation strategies of such texts torepresent its original and accurate information. They are literal translation,foreignization and translator as a mediator. Related translation methods, includingaddition and deduction, splitting and restructuring, are listed within case studies as well.This report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces thebackground, aim, significance and structure of this translation report. The secondchapter briefs the research background of the source text. The third chapter describestranslation difficulties and strategies and lists practical translation methods. And thefourth chapter summaries translation experiences and lessons learnt from this project.
