English has become the world’s lingua franca. However, the speakers with non-standard English have brought difficulties for interpreters and the accent constitutes problem triggers in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting. The thesis aims to study the difficulties interpreters confront and strategies that should be employed to cope with such scenarios with the effort model of simultaneous interpretation proposed by Daniel Gile.The thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter1is the leading part, introducing the difficulties that accented English bring on interpreters and the significance of choosing this subject.Chapter2is the literature review, and also introduces Daniel Gile’s Effort Model of simultaneous interpretation, to study why interpreters have to scale up their efforts to handle accent.Chapter3studies translation of accented English in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting in light of this effort model. It includes the definition of "accented English" in this study; the specific aspects of impact that accented English have on interpreters and some coping strategies.Chapter4is the experiment part, in which the author aims to find out interpreters’ performance when confronting accented English. And also analyze other aspects that influence interpreters’performance. It also includes an evaluation on the questionnaire.Chapter5concludes the findings of the thesis.
