As a student majoring in interpreting, the author found that interrogative sentences brought great difficulty during simultaneous interpreting, especially that from Chinese into English, because sometimes it is hard to discern an interrogative sentence at its beginning and interrogative sentences in Chinese and English are of different structures. Therefore, the author attempts to study the influence of interrogative sentences on Chinese-English Simultaneous Interpretation in this paper. At the Introduction, the author briefly analyzes the structural differences of interrogative sentences in Chinese and English. Then the author designs an experiment and puts forward assumptions based on Daniel Gile's effort model for simultaneous interpretation, problem triggers and failure sequences. The paper is tries to answer the following questions: 1) are interrogative sentences causes for difficulty in simultaneous interpreting; 2) how do interpreters handle such sentences, and can we find good solutions to such sentences? The speech used contains various kinds of interrogative sentences. The author simulates the real situation for simultaneous interpreting and finds five students of simultaneous interpreting to do the experiment. Their performances are transcribed, and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively on the bases of relevant theories. The conclusion is that: interrogative sentences do bring difficulties for simultaneous interpreting and influence the output of interpreting; the interpreters adopt different strategies for different sentences; some strategies can be used to improve interpreting quality generally.
