Study On Kung Fu Panda From The Perspecitve Of Transculturation

As long as the degree of globalization unceasingly enhanced, the trend of culture globalization is also being strengthened ceaselessly. As one of the elements that measure the comprehensive strength of a country, culture has been greatly valued. Animation movie, a representative of the culture industry, gains wide affection from audience.From2008to2011, two Hollywood-produced animation movies--"Kung Fu Panda", have achieved complete success in China. Chinese elements and traditional culture forms have been perfectly employed in the movies. This paper adopts text analysis as the method to explain the culture transform phenomenon in the two movies, simultaneously from two dimensions of time and space. From the dimension of space, culture transforms from China to the US. From the dimension of time, culture transforms from the ancient to modern. During the process of analyses, the author wants to find how the Hollywood movie-producers employ Chinese culture elements in their works freely, and how they use the "cloth" of Chinese culture elements to tailor a suitable "clothes" for American values. The author hopes the analyses in this paper would provide useful information for Chinese cartoon industry. The author concludes that there are two principles Chinese animation should obey when doing culture transformation. Firstly, the producers should seek diversity in the process of development, find equilibrium between Chinese culture and Western culture, and use correct narrative methods to pass on the values that they want to express. Secondly, In order to adapt to the trend of cultural development under the background of Globalization, the producers should transform Chinese traditional culture into modern ones.
