Kung Fu Panda has become a hot topic in recent years. Theimage of a lovely panda named Po has been recognized and adoredby people all over the world. Back in2008, the American animated filmKung Fu Panda swept throughout the world, resulting in the number oneposition at the box office in the United States. In the Chinese market italso won a burst of applause. What makes the Hollywood’s blockbusterfilm so special is that the story is set against an ancient China, and thefilm is filled with Chinese culture from the very beginning till the end. However, since it is a product of Hollywood, it is inevitable that beneaththe obvious Chinese appearance, there embedded the profoundAmerican values. From the view of intercultural communication, the authorregards this film as a product of the integration of Chinese andAmerican cultures. From the analysis of the film, we can on the onehand have a better understanding of the further deepening ofglobalization, esp. cultural globalization, and on the other hand be fullyaware of the fact that Chinese culture is gradually gaining more andmore significance on the world stage. At the same time, the success ofthis film in the world market, including both America and China hasproved that cultural integration can be achieved in harmony on thebasis of mutual respect and understanding. After the phenomenal success of Kung Fu Panda, manydomestic filmmakers and ordinary Chinese are wondering why thisblockbuster was made by Americans rather than Chinese since it isChinese culture that was fully employed throughout the film. In view ofthis, this thesis aims to interpret Kung Fu Panda from interculturalperspective. The author attempts to uncover both Chinese andAmerican cultures of this film in a comprehensive way and she will also analyze that in what way these two seemingly diverse cultures areintegrated in the hope of arousing the awareness of our own cultureand providing some constructive implications for the effective andcreative use and dissemination of Chinese culture.
