A Study Of Wang Zuoliang’s Poetry Translation:

Wang Zuoliang (1916-1995),1939graduated from Southwest Associated University,1947went to Merton College, Oxford University,1949returned, then was assigned to the Beijing Foreign Language School (the predecessor of Beijing Foreign Studies University), taught until his death.The first chapter introduces the Wang Zuoliang’s scholar, translator, poet triple identity, and both the existing research and the entry point of this paper.The second chapter introduces the Wang Zuoliang’s life early, middle and late periods of three. Early period in Associated University he beagn to wrote poems; middle period affected by the political and cultural environment, poetry writing interrupted, but translated Robert Bums’ poems; late period is the harvest period of history of poetry writing and poetry translation.The third chapter focuses on the history of English poetry written by Wang Zuoliang, and the Anthology of English Verse edited by Wang Zuoliang. With in-depth academic research, in his early period his attitude that obsessed in modernist poetry and objected British Romantic poetry has reversed, this in turn affected the translation of poetry. His focus is translating activities to provide reference for Chinese poetry writing.In the forth chapter I analyzes Wang’s translation theory through the practice of his translation of poetry. Overall, he advocated "Poets Translating Poetry"; in specific translation activities, he believes that it should try to follow the form and retain the original poem, translated language to be pure and elasticity; In addition, he claims to show consideration for the overall effect of the translation, you can rhyme, rhythm and poetry for local image adjustments.Throughout the life of Wang Zuoliang, Poet, scholar and translator of identity are intertwined. In the end, I summarized the achievements of poetry translation of Wang Zuoliang, his poetry translation reflects his esteem for the quality of language and inspired many poetry translator. His poetry translation theory is impartial. To the readers, his books of poetry history, the Anthology of English Verse is still effective.
