Modesty is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, and it is an important moral accomplishment of ancient Chinese civilization. In contemporary, modest in the new process of building a harmonious society still plays its unique role. Grasping and understanding the meaning of modesty, and modest behavior, for people to inherit and carry forward the virtues of modesty is of great significance.When positive psychologists constructed its values in Action Classification of Strength, classified the human nature from the24kinds of advantage character of6great virtue, wisdom, courage, kindness, justice, temperance and beyond. In which modesty is as the one of24kinds of advantage character and is included in temperance. This means do not to be arrogance and boast. Big Five personality dimensions of agreeableness this modest as one of the traits associated with agreeableness. Big five personality characteristics also included modest. the higher scores in modest means did not pushy, humility and not put on airs; the people of lower score in modest thought himself was superior. Edward personality preference scale (EPPS) holds that modesty is one of15kinds of needs. Tangney thought modesty was deep identity, because there was no need to prove themselves better than others. This was the spirit of making self-deprecating aspirant. On one hand, they admitted their own shortcomings and willing to master the knowledge. On the anther hand, they were also willing to accept new ideas and wise advice from othersThe predecessor thought modesty could be divided into "solid" and "virtual"."Solid" modesty showed a person’s moral accomplishment, which referred to people with the attitude of they need further study."Virtual" modesty was a kind of strategy, in which they achieved a particular purpose. Guan Qun and Meng wang-jin described the establishment of Chinese primary and middle school students’ positive mental quality scale, which included modest as a positive psychological quality. In Hu Jinsheng’s survey,84%of college thought modesty was absolutely important or very important and only16%of which thought it was not important.There were some scales related to modest or humility. Elliott based on Tangney definition of Humility as a starting point, compiled the modest scale (Humility scale); Whetstone, Okun, Cialdini developed the modesty reaction scale (modesty response scale, MRS). which contains21items; in2009,Hu Jin-sheng from the function of modesty and self-deprecating motivation two aspects, has compiled the "modesty assessment questionnaire" esteemed college students and adult version "modesty motivation questionnaire"; they thought the undergraduates’modesty was divided into four dimensions, modest cognitive level, a modest mood level, modest motivation level and modest behavior level;There were studies involving elementary school children’s modest moral, modest behavior, and modesty identity of college students. But only a little research on middle school students’ humility or modesty. Therefore, this study intends to explore middle school student’s self-modesty dimension structure and preparation of modesty scale for middle school students, and analyzes its characteristics.This study based on the analysis of the result of the97open questionnaires and reference of foreign literatures and related scales, compiled the preliminary questionnaire of37items. After the freshman of middle school students fulfilled the test of the popularity of the items, the initial questionnaire distributed in Sichuan and Chongqing area.535students completed the questionnaire. By the item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, there formed retest the questionnaire consist of17items. Middle schools in Sichuan and Chongqing region filled the507piece of retest questionnaire. On the basis of the items analysis and exploratory factor analysis, there finally got the modesty scale of middle school students, which15items and three dimensions. In the reliability test, including the internal consistency and reliability of the early testing inspection. In validity test, it contained the content validity, structure validity and bid validity test.1048participants took part in the investigation. There were came to be the descriptive analysis of the data, gender difference test which including transgender measurement equivalence, the one-child differences with the not the one child that including across the one-child measurement equivalence with not the one child, grade difference inspection which including grade trend analysis, finally modesty has carried on the classification of high school students.This research mainly adopts SPSS19.0, AMOS19.0and MPLUS7.0to carry out the data analysis, exploratory factor analysis, parallel analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, measurement equivalence test, correlation analysis, independent sample T test, variance analysis, trend analysis, latent class analysis.The results of this research are as follow:(1) Middle school students’self-modesty scale consists of15items and3dimensions.(2) Middle school student’s self-modesty scale with good reliability and validity, self-modesty scale can be used for high school students.(3) Girl’s acceptance level is higher than boys, girls modesty levels higher than boys; there were no significant difference between one child with and not one-child in modesty level; with the increase of grade, middle school students’ level of modesty are on the rise, and it is a linear trend.(4) Middle school students’modesty can be divided into three types, the higher modesty group, the moderate low tonal group, the moderate modesty group.
