This thesis studies the School Songs of late Qing dynasty. Three educational concepts of those School Songs are analyzed from the perspective of Innovating People, namely education, aesthetic education and music education. By analyzing the core education concept, this thesis further explores the interactive relationship between Innovating People and the School Songs, hence revealing the nature of School Songs.There are three sections all together: first the introduction, it covers the research status, research purpose and research significance.Three captures are included in the body. The first chapter presents an overview of School Songs. Firstly, it studies the background information: the origin and connotation of Innovating People. Then, the proposition and implementation of New Learning, its educational concepts and influence on Innovating People are discussed, since New Learning is a crucial factor to the study of Innovating People. Lastly, the content and tune of School Songs are summarized.The second chapter analyzes three educational concepts in School Songs. Based on historical documents, education, aesthetic education and music education are compared and analyzed to figure out which concept is most important.The third chapter focuses on the interactive relationship between Innovating People and the School Songs. Firstly, the influence of Innovating People on the educational concepts of School Songs and its creation are formulated. Then, based on the publicity of School Songs in press and songbook and the activities concerning School Songs, its’function of innovating people is expounded.The last section is the conclusion. Comments on the educational concepts of the School Songs from the perspective of Innovating People are made. The nature of School Songs is concluded. The future understanding of School Songs is to be refined based on this thesis.
