As a result of quickening pace of China’s integration into the global economy, the increasing depth and breadth of China’s opening up to the outside word have been greatly promoted. The culture of Inner Mongolia has achieved much attention in such a background. Meanwhile, the diet culture can strengthen communication in cultural exchanges with other countries. Therefore, the translation of dish names plays an important role in carrying forward national culture and local elegant demeanor. However, owing to the great difference between Mongolian and Western diet cultures, it is not easy to offer high-quality translation to the readers.The translation of the dish names is quite purposeful in nature. It is not only to meet consumer’s demand and stimulate their appetite, but also to transmit the culture of the dishes. This requires translators to know the main ingredients and recipes of every dish, the methods of cooking, and even the differences between Mongolian and western dish names, in order that the correct translation strategies will be adopted. This study focuses on the strategies that are used to translate the dish names of Mongolian from the perspective of Skopos Theory. In the comparative analysis of characteristics of naming, this research discussed the methods of translating the dish names of Mongolian food.The thesis, firstly, gives a brief introduction to Mongolian food culture, and also the purposes and significance of conducting this thesis. Secondly, the research briefly introduces Skopos Theory and discusses its application in the translation of dish names of Mongolian food. This is followed by precious studies on the translation of Mongolian food, based on the comparison between Mongolian and western dish names. The methods of translation of Mongolian dish names are summed up, according to the similarities and differences of naming characteristics, and some translations of representative Mongolian food dish names are taken as examples.In today’s world, foreign exchange has become more and more frequent. This study aims to offer high-quality translation of the dish names of Mongolian food for the foreigners, through which they can know more about Mongolian food and the culture of it, and to contribute to the propaganda of national culture and the development of economy.
