The interpreting has been developing in our country for2,000years. In ancient times, people who acted as a media to help others to communicate were called DiYin or TongShi (assistant interpreter) for the first time. With the development of the society, it is essential for us to communicate with each other, so the interpreting emerges. However, the interpreting which was treated as a kind of profession was not accepted by the whole world until after the First World War. The Paris Conference of1919used the conference interpreting for the first time. And after that, the interpreting has been used in the discussion and communication of important issues around the world. Conference interpreting has played a more and more important role in the communication of politics, economics and culture within our country and other countries since China entered WTO. The thesis is intended to discuss listening comprehension barriers to conference interpreting and put forward some strategies ofThow to solve them under the theoretical framework of Gile’s comprehension model. First, the thesis clarifies the target and significance of this thesis and works out the methods used in this thesis, and makes a comprehensive analysis of the study by the scholars at home and abroad of conference interpreting. After that, the thesis introduces the comprehension model of Gile as the theoretical basis and points out its great significance in conference interpreting. The main body of this thesis, which takes the press conference of Yang Jiechi in2012as an example, deals with the characteristics of listening comprehension in conference interpreting and clarifies the listening comprehension barriers in four aspects and puts forward the strategies of improving interpreting based on the above analysis. I hope the interpreters should pay much attention to the comprehension model of Gile and the thesis can give a reference to the improvement of interpreting.
