Color is a kind of perception that people cognize the world. It has a close relationshipwith our life, to some extent, people lives upon color. There are a lot of symbols recordingcolor in human languages--color words. These words contain luxuriant emotionalcolouring and cultural connotation, human feelings are also been embodied by these colorwords. So the color word can directly convey the national culture and spirit character ofdifferent people around the world. Because of the diversity of nation, culture or differentsocial status and estate, the sensation to color words is various in cross culturalcommunication. It has positive significance in glossology, and color words are endued withmultiple associative meaning by the difference. Based on this, more and more scholarsshow great interests towards color words.In the practice of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, we found most learners arevery interested in color words. They like comparing these words in their native languageand Chinese. However, they are incapable of fully understanding the cultural connotationcontained in color words limited by ability of learning Chinese. So it is necessary todeepen Chinese color words teaching. Foreign learners can have a better comprehension tothe unique historical culture, national psychology and folk customs of China by colorwords teaching.In this article, we target and compare the cultural connotation of five color words,with an eye to vocabulary teaching Chinese as a foreign language, investigate and researchthe differences between Chinese and foreign languages. We further discuss the detailedteaching methods and ways of culture of color words in teaching, in order to solve therelated problems in practical teaching. We hope that this paper can contribute to the careerof teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
