Note-taking Skills In Chinese-english Consecutive Interpreting

With the accelerating globalization, international exchanges have become morefrequent. Interpretation, as a bridge of communication, has played an increasinglyimportant role. Consecutive interpretation is characterized with discontinuity, effectiveness,and high demand for interpreter under great stress. Hence, interpreters, in order to rendersource language comprehensively and correctly over the process of interpreting the targetlanguage, should not only be equipped with excellent short-term memory, but also becapable of taking advantage of notes. However, having chosen the improper contents andmanners to take notes, interpreters will be hindered from interpreting target language. As aresult of that, to study and discuss the implementation of some related techniques of notetaking is of vital importance to improve the quality of consecutive interpretation. Thepaper focuses on a case study on a forum themed with industry during InternationalInvestment Forum. The author conducts a consecutive interpretation on the forum. Thepaper, based on the note-taking during the process of the interpretation, studies anddiscusses how to apply the note taking skills in interpretation. By solving somenote-related problems, the paper will help give references for future interpretation.
