In the context of economic globalization, the cultural exchanges between different countries have become more frequently and closely, five thousand years of China ancient civilization is impacted by the western culture, Chinese original culture pattern is also face challenges from diversity of the world’s cultural. The priority way that for Chinese culture catch up with the advanced culture,is taking participate in international cultural exchange initiative and actively. As an important type of cultural transmission, documentary not only can provide a better way for the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures, but also can serve as an important carrier of Chinese culture output. However, for a long time, because of the different natural environment, productive work, distinctive national culture formed between China and western countries, which makes significant differences of Natural history film creation between China and western countries, and these differences will make great influence to the international communication of Chinese Natural history film. This thesis focuses on comparing such diversities, finding out the differences between Chinese and western culture, in order to absorb the advanced thoughts and approaches from western countries. At the same time, helping Chinese artists who act as communicator to clarify the advantages and disadvantages of national culture, to better understand and use it, and then find the correspondency of Chinese and western culture, making the international spread of Chinese culture in a better way.This paper use the Forest China produced by Chinese artists only and the Wild China by Sino-UK cooperation as the research object, comparing and analysing those two documentaries based on narrative theories. And then, reference the intercultural communication theory as the breakthrough point, which is the foundation of differences between Chinese and western culture research, trying to analysis this differences with a clear and integrated way.There are five parts in this research, chapter1is the introduction, mainly introduced background, methods and significance of the study; chapter2is the significance of some important definitions; chapter3provides a specific case for the cultural comparison, clarifying the different forms and artistic expression between two documentaries with the narrative analysis; the fourth chapter is the analysis and comparison of cultural differences, which is based on the theories of Value Orientation made by Kluckhohns,Strodteck,and High-Context culture and Low-Context culture by E.T.Hall, in order to explore the reasons of culture which leads to the different style between Chinese and western Nature History Film creation; chapter5on the basis of above analysis, sums up the creation of Chinese Natural history film, and concludes for five ideas and strategies for improvement.
