In the process of previous research on newgeneration directors, the male directors, represented by JiaZhangke, Lu Chuan and Zhang Yuan, became the main object ofstudy, in contrast to the new generation of female directors, whichhad little been studied.. However, the small number of the femaledirectors with few works should not be the reason for we do notpay attention to the new generation female directors. In the male-dominated film industry, we can see that the new generation offemale directors slowly beginning to show up, their works not only win awards in the major film festivals, but also play well in box office.As a new force of Chinese cinema, the research on them seems tobe particularly urgent and important.This article will be divided into four chapters to analyze andresearch the new generation of female directors. The first chapteris the introduction, which will make a definition for new generationof female directors, as well as includes the purpose andsignificance of the research.
