Opinions On Teaching Prepositions From The Prospective Of Teaching Materials

Learners are always making mistakes about preposition indicating manner and particle because of the similar meaning and usage. But as a matter of fact, preposition indicating manner is a class of particle. This paper, by observing Developing Chinese and many kinds of syllabus of Chinese for foreigners, focus on the arrangements and distributions of preposition indicating manner. And the volunteers are from abroad students in our school, by doing questionnaires to test their knowledge and conclude their types of errors. Through the outcomes of questionnaires, we can find that there are3types of errors, the confusion between preposition indicating manner and preposition, the internal confusion of preposition indicating manner itself and the wrong orders. Looking back to the teaching material, we will easily find the arrangements mean a lot to the learners. On the one hand, the regular, easily understanding arrangements and explanation are good for students to master it well. On the other hand, the main reason to confuse students is the inadequate explanations of definition and the wrong arrangements of practice. At the last part of this paper, I come up with a few suggestions dealing with the proper arrangements and the tips of using the teaching materials. This paper points out the connections between the explanation of preposition indicating manner and the learners by paying much attention to the review and the type of practice. Teachers should clearly introduce all the usage of preposition indicating manner, put an emphasis on the differences, structural characteristics and the location of preposition phrase by leading the students themselves to find their own problems. Last but not least, TCSL should encourage their students to do more exercise based on each student’s learning situation. From the above aspects, students can make a good comprehension on preposition indicating manner and reduce the using errors.
