| With the development of China's marine industry,the achievement of China's aids navigation has greatly improved the status of China's aids navigation in the international arena.The constant update of aids navigation information depends on the research of historical data of aids navigation.The original material of this translation practice is from the China's Unedited Historical Materials of the Chinese Customs(1860-1949)in the Harvard University Library.It describes in detail the position and appearance of waterways,anchorages,beach insurance,lightships,lighthouses,and other obstructions to provide safety information for various water navigation.This report is based on the translation practice which is about the historical data of aids navigation in the Huanghai region before the founding of New China.To begin with Newmark's translation theories of "semantic translation" and "communicative translation",this report focuses on the English-Chinese translation of prepositional phrases of manner.The history of aids navigation belongs to information type text.Therefore,it's emphasis is on the accurate expression of information content.During the translation of prepositional phrases of manner,it should be guided by semantic translation and communicative translation.According to the structure classification of the prepositional phrase of manner,a flexible translation strategy is adopted.This report consists of four parts:translation task description,translation process,case analysis and practice summary,and the case analysis is the main part.Different classification of prepositional phrase of manner in the text of aids navigation corresponds the different translation skills.Therefore,This report focuses on the study of trans-version and perversion,additions and omissions,forward translation and reverse translation by using way of contrast.Finally these skills prove that it is feasible to use comparison of that four translation strategies and eight translation techniques in the report. |
