A Preliminary Exploration On Basic Training Of String Quartet

The string quartet is the most important and representative performance form of chamber music. In the early days, it was played within local area, such as indoor saloon. With the development of music, gradually this kind of performance form steps on the stages and becomes the momentous performance form today.This thesis study the basic training way of string quartet, referencing the quartet works of Haydn and Beethoven before the romantic period. The thesis can be divided into three sections. The first section is about the string quartet works before the romantic period. It introduces the formation of quartet, Haydn and Beethoven’s quartet works, respectively. Section two is the basic training of string quartet, introducing the instruments of string quartet, intonation training, rhythm training, consistency of vibrato, consistency of bowing, consistency of dynamic, respectively. Section three is the summary. The author summarize the basic training of string quartet based on four years’training of string quartet in undergraduate course, three years’study of papers focusing on string quartet in graduate course, and visiting a large number of string quartet rehearsal courses. Hopefully it would provide some practical theory basis for early training of string quartet.
